A Major Observation

Notice something remarkable:

When the apostles command believers to:

  • Love
  • Forgive
  • Repent
  • Be holy
  • Judge righteously
  • Care for the poor
  • Flee idolatry
  • Flee fornication
  • Keep God’s commandments
  • Be separate from uncleanness
  • Walk in righteousness

they are overwhelmingly drawing from:

  • The Torah
  • The Psalms
  • The Prophets

This helps explain why Paul could say:

Romans 3:31 (KJV)

“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”

And why John could write:

Revelation 14:12 (KJV)

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”

Core Conclusion

The New Testament does not teach a new moral standard detached from the Old Testament.

It repeatedly commands what the Torah and Prophets already taught:

  • Love YAH.
  • Keep His commandments.
  • Love thy neighbour.
  • Flee idolatry.
  • Flee fornication.
  • Speak truth.
  • Judge righteously.
  • Care for the poor.
  • Be holy.
  • Repent.
  • Walk in obedience.

This agrees with the New Covenant promise:

Jeremiah 31:33 KJV

“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

The New Covenant does not remove YAH’s law.

It moves the law from stone and scroll into the inward parts of the obedient son.

Absolutely. The strongest version of this study is to build it as a scripture-chain, showing that the New Testament command is anchored in an Old Testament command or principle. Then the reader can see the continuity for himself.

New Testament

PART 5 — COMMANDS UNIQUE TO MESSIAH

These are not contradictions to Torah. They are commands connected to Messiah’s mission.

Believe on Messiah

Prophetic Foundation

Isaiah 53

New Testament

John 6:29 (KJV)

“This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

Be Baptized

New Testament

Acts 2:38 (KJV)

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you…”

Preach The Gospel

Old Testament

Isaiah 61:1 (KJV)

“The LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings…”

New Testament

Mark 16:15 (KJV)

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel…”

FINAL CONCLUSION

Jeremiah Prophesied It

Jeremiah 31:33 (KJV)

“I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts…”

Notice Jeremiah did not say:

“I will abolish my law.”

He said:

“I will write my law in their hearts.”

When we compare the commandments of Messiah, Paul, Peter, James, and John with the Torah and the Prophets, we discover that the overwhelming majority of New Testament commandments are:

  • Torah repeated.
  • Torah explained.
  • Torah magnified.
  • Torah applied.
  • Torah written upon the heart.

The New Covenant is not the removal of YAH’s standard.

The New Covenant is the transformation of the son of God so that obedience comes from the heart rather than merely from external compulsion.

Romans 3:31 (KJV)

“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”

1 John 5:3 (KJV)

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”

And thus the testimony of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation is one: the righteous love YAH, and because they love Him, they keep His commandments.
